In Memoriam

‘76

Karen Karelius, a licensed professional counselor, has died after a battle with metastatic cancer. Karelius served as an administrator at Antelope Valley Community College, Michigan State, Marylhurst University and Mt. Hood Community College. She also taught psychology, women’s studies, literature, philosophy and other subjects, and in 1995 founded The Karelius Group as a resource in psychotherapy. Karelius, who earned a degree in counseling at CSUN and a doctorate from Michigan State University, is survived by her husband, Randy Ross.

Patsy Flanigan, president and CEO of Flanigan Farms Natural Foods, died in December at 78. Flanigan, who earned her bachelor of science degree in food science, was awarded the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2002. A delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business, Flanigan was an active member of the advisory board for CSUN’s Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition & Dietetics in the College of Health and Human Development. She also devoted time to the American Heart Association, the Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center and the City of Hope.
