Brian Castronovo (Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures) is co-author with Carmelo Cariano of “Estructura lingüística del español y el inglés” (University Readers), a descriptive and theoretical overview of the Spanish language, depicting its parallels and contrasts with English. It is considered suitable for both English-speaking and international Spanish students. The companion manual, “Estructura lingüística del español y el ingles: Cuaderno de Práctica,” will help learners improve their mastery of both language structures.

A passion to learn American Sign Language (ASL) brought Cheryl McCrary ’83 (Political Science) to Cal State Northridge. Growing up in South Los Angeles, McCrary dreamed of becoming a legal interpreter for the deaf. She never imagined that combining interpreting classes and a political science major would lead to her meteoric career in federal law enforcement.
